Texans have a reason to celebrate as the state commemorates a century of preserving its natural beauty through the Texas State Parks system. It all began in the 1920s when the people of Texas recognized the importance of conserving their resources. With the advent of cars and paved roads, the stage was set for a new era of exploration. In 1923, Governor Pat Neff appointed the Texas State Parks Board to establish Texas' own state parks, realizing the state's rich and diverse landscapes were ideal for public parks and recreational centers. Fast forward 100 years, and Texas boasts 88 state parks and counting, each preserving the essence of what makes Texas truly Texan.
To mark this momentous occasion, Cooper Lake State Park is hosting a free event titled "Legends, Lore, and Legacy" on October 7. The day promises a blend of family fun, recreation, and education.
