On the evening of September 13, 2023, Texarkana Police responded to a shooting incident in the 3800 block of Alexander Avenue. The incident occurred shortly after 5:00 pm and was reportedly the result of a disturbance inside a residence, which led to the shooting of a woman.
The victim, identified as 30-year-old Mercedes Young, was transported to a local hospital by ambulance to receive medical attention for significant injuries. Regrettably, despite efforts by medical staff, Young succumbed to her injuries later in the evening.
Authorities have identified Rodney Lindley, a 40-year-old resident of Texarkana, Texas, as the primary suspect in this homicide case. Detectives investigating the incident have obtained a warrant for Lindley's arrest on charges of murder. However, Lindley managed to flee the scene before law enforcement officers arrived, and as of now, he remains at large.
According to the Texarkana Police Department (TTPD), Rodney Lindley allegedly shot Mercedes Young inside her residence during the disturbance. This incident marks the first homicide in Texarkana, Texas, this year.
