In the late hours of September 2, 2023, at approximately 11:15 pm, a routine traffic stop conducted by a Sulphur Springs Police officer near the 124-mile marker of I-30 Eastbound took an unexpected turn, resulting in the arrest of Jeffrey Jones, a 58-year-old resident of Sulphur Springs.
The traffic stop was initiated by the officer due to a suspected traffic violation. Upon approaching the vehicle and speaking with the driver, identified as Jeffrey Jones, law enforcement officers received consent from Jones to search the vehicle.
During the search, officers uncovered a wallet inside the vehicle. Inside the wallet was a black and clear baggie containing a substance suspected to be methamphetamine. Jones, when questioned about the discovery, acknowledged ownership of the methamphetamine.
Jeffrey Jones was taken into custody at the scene and subsequently transported to the Hopkins County Jail for further processing. At the jail, the suspected methamphetamine was weighed, amounting to approximately 0.48 grams, and tested positive as methamphetamine.
