A tense situation unfolded yesterday morning, August 20, on County Road 2417 as Camp County Deputy Jim Carrigo responded to a call regarding a disturbance involving firearms. The incident, which culminated in the arrest of Cason Green, marked a harrowing confrontation that drew law enforcement officers from multiple agencies to the scene.
According to Camp County Sheriff John Cortelyou, Deputy Carrigo arrived at the location to find an escalating situation. Green was seen running accross the yard in front of a trailer house. As events unfolded, Deputy Carrigo observed Green retrieve a long gun from the porch in front of the trailer and level it in his direction.
Deputy Carrigo drew his weapon and ordererd Green to lower his gun. As Lieutenant Marc Nichols of the Pittsburg Police Department arrived to provide backup, Green retreated back into the trailer with the weapon, taking shelter within.
After Green was back in the trailer, the Officers heard a shot come from inside of the trailer at which they secured the perimeter and requested further backup.
Sheriff Cortelyou, Chief Deputy Randy Huggins and Investigator Tim Hall responded to the scene. With communication attempts failing, the decision was made to summon the specialized resources of the Mount Pleasant SWAT team.
The SWAT team cleared the trailer in a controlled operation, uncovering that Green had managed to escape undetected through the trailer's rear wxit before the perimeter was secured.
"After the trailer was cleared, a search was started for Green," said Sheriff Cortelyou. "He was apprehended along Lake Bob Sandlin in the Havenspoint area."
As a result, 27-year-old Cason Paul Green was booked into the Camp County Jail for aggravated assault against a public servant.
