At 6:54 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2025, the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a vehicle crashing through a residence on FM 842 in the Moffett area.
Sheriff’s deputies and DPS troopers arrived on scene to find that a vehicle had driven straight through the home, exiting through the other side before fleeing. Inside the residence, 70-year-old homeowner Robert Boles was found deceased after being struck by the vehicle.
The investigation determined that a Chevrolet pickup had been traveling northbound on FM 842 when it left the roadway on a slight curve, struck a tree, and crashed through Boles' house.
Following a trail left by the damaged vehicle, officers located a Chevrolet pickup with extensive front-end damage at a residence on Wilkerson Road, approximately three miles from the crash site. The truck was partially hidden under a tarp, with another vehicle parked behind it to obscure it from view. Debris from the destroyed home and mail addressed to Boles were found near the pickup.
Investigators identified Jorge Urbina Lopez, a resident at the Wilkerson Road address, as the driver and suspect. Surveillance footage from a nearby convenience store showed Lopez and the vehicle five minutes before the crash.
Texas Ranger Corey Seymore obtained a search warrant for the Wilkerson Road property, but Lopez was not found there. Deputies and troopers proceeded to another residence on FM 842, where Lopez was believed to have ties. Upon entry, Lopez was found hiding partially under a bed and resisted removal but was taken into custody at 12:45 p.m.
Lopez was transported to the Angelina County Jail, where he is being held on multiple outstanding traffic warrants and faces pending felony charges related to failure to remain at the scene of a crash involving death. Authorities also determined Lopez had been previously deported as an illegal immigrant, and his immigration status is under review by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The investigation remains ongoing.
