Off-Duty Tyler Police Officer Killed in Motorcycle Crash

The Tyler Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred on Friday, April 25th, around 6 pm on Troup Highway, just north of Loop 323. The crash tragically claimed the life of an off-duty Tyler Police Officer, Sam Lively.

The investigation indicates that Officer Lively was riding his motorcycle southbound on Troup Highway in the outside lane. As he approached Loop 323, another vehicle traveling south in the inside lane changed lanes and collided with the motorcycle.

Officer Lively was transported by EMS to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Officer Lively was a recent graduate of the police academy and had completed his field training.

The Tyler Police Department released a statement expressing their profound sadness: “Officer Lively was an amazing young man that wanted to serve the Tyler Community. He will be missed by everyone that had the privilege of knowing him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and fellow officer's.”

The case remains under active investigation.
