Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a residence in the Southland Plantation subdivision on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at approximately 8:00 p.m.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officers discovered a female victim who had allegedly been physically assaulted and a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.
Sheriff’s Office detectives initiated an investigation and determined that a domestic dispute between a husband and wife had escalated from a verbal argument to a physical altercation. During the incident, the female party reportedly retrieved a small-caliber firearm and discharged it multiple times, fatally wounding the male subject, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Emergency Medical Services provided aid to both individuals. The female was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and subsequently released. A Justice of the Peace conducted an inquest and ordered an autopsy by the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Texas Rangers and the Polk County District Attorney’s Office, is continuing the investigation. All findings will be presented to a Grand Jury to determine if criminal charges will be filed.
Authorities have stated that there is no ongoing threat to public safety at this time.
