Quick Collaboration Leads to Arrest After Man Flees Commerce Police

The Commerce Police Department responded to a disturbance in the 2300 block of Washington Street on Monday, April 21, 2025, at approximately 1 p.m. Upon arrival, officers encountered an active disturbance. When they attempted to speak with the individuals involved, a man refused to comply with their orders and fled on foot.

A brief foot pursuit ensued. The East Texas A&M University Police Department responded to assist the Commerce Police. Due to the swift response and teamwork of both departments, the man was quickly apprehended.

The suspect is currently in custody and awaiting arraignment.

Commerce Police Chief Corley Weatherford released a statement thanking local law enforcement for their rapid response and collaboration, emphasizing the safety of the community and those involved. He also stated that there is no ongoing concern or threat in the area at this time.
