A quick response by Texarkana Police officers early this morning led to the arrest of 25-year-old Maleek Collier after he was caught attempting to burglarize vehicles.
Around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15th, authorities received a call from a concerned citizen who observed a man pulling on car door handles in a hotel parking lot off Cowhorn Creek Road. Lieutenant Jeremy Courtney arrived on the scene and located Collier hiding underneath a truck.
As Lt. Courtney approached, Collier allegedly rolled out from under the vehicle and fled on foot. Fortunately, other officers were nearby and quickly apprehended him.
Near Collier's initial hiding spot, officers discovered an iPad on the ground. It was later determined to belong to a hotel guest who had left it in their truck.
Collier was arrested and charged with Burglary of a Vehicle, Assault on a Peace Officer, Evading Arrest, and Possession of Marijuana. He was subsequently booked into the Bi-State Jail.
The Texarkana Police Department thanked the observant citizen for their report and commended their officers for their swift action in making the arrest and recovering the stolen property for its rightful owner.
