Attorney General Expands EPIC City Investigation in Josephine, Demands Records From Several Cities

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is broadening his investigation into the EPIC City real estate development, affiliated with the East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC), by issuing demands for documents from city officials in Plano, Richardson, Wylie, and Josephine.

The records requests follow claims by Yasir Qadhi, an individual associated with EPIC City, of having support from local officials. The development is currently under investigation for potential violations of Texas state law.

Attorney General Paxton's office has sent public records requests seeking communications between city leaders and officials for EPIC, EPIC City, and Community Capital Partners, LP, along with other information related to the development. This action follows a previous Civil Investigative Demand (CID) issued as part of the ongoing inquiry.

"If any local official is supporting or communicating with a real estate development that is under investigation for potential violations of state law, then it’s imperative that we are made aware of exactly what’s being communicated," said Attorney General Paxton. "We will thoroughly review these documents as part of our ongoing investigation into EPIC City and work to hold accountable anyone who breaks Texas law."
