Mount Pleasant Police and multiple other emergency agencies are currently at the scene of a major accident at Cici’s Pizza, located in the 600 block of 666 S Jefferson Ave. A vehicle has struck the building, resulting in injuries.
Chapel Hill ISD (Titus County) students were present at the location for a 6th-grade field trip at the time of the incident. The school district has notified all parents whose children were involved.
The investigation is active, and authorities are urging the public to avoid the area and be mindful of emergency vehicles on the roadway.
Initial reports indicate that five children were injured, but this information is currently fluid as the situation unfolds. Students who were not injured are being transported back to the Chapel Hill ISD campus.
Out of respect for the emergency responders working to clear the scene, Chapel Hill ISD is requesting that families not go to the location immediately.
UPDATE: On Thursday, April 10th, at approximately 11:20 am, Mount Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) dispatch received a report of a vehicle striking a building at 666 S. Jefferson Ave. Upon arrival, officers found that a Toyota 4-Runner had crashed into the front of Cici’s Pizza, resulting in injuries to multiple individuals both outside and inside the restaurant.
Mount Pleasant Fire Department (MPFD) and Titus Regional Medical Center (TRMC) EMS responded to the scene to provide emergency medical assistance. A total of six juveniles and four adults were injured in the crash and were subsequently transported to area hospitals by emergency personnel. Several others sustained minor injuries and were evaluated and treated at the scene.
Among those transported, six individuals sustained minor injuries, three received moderate injuries, and one victim suffered critical injuries.
The driver of the Toyota 4-Runner, a 79-year-old male, was evaluated by emergency medical staff and was found to be uninjured as a result of the collision. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
The Mount Pleasant Police Department acknowledged the swift and effective response of their officers and dispatch, along with the Mount Pleasant Fire Department, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Titus County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO), Titus County Constable Office, Mount Pleasant ISD PD (MPISD PD), Chapel Hill ISD PD, EMS, and local hospital staff. They also expressed their heartfelt sympathy to Chapel Hill ISD, the injured individuals, and their families.
