Sulphur Springs Woman Arrested for Public Intoxication After Hospital Disturbance

Kiesa Dawn Birstein

On Tuesday night, April 8th, Sulphur Springs Police Officers responded to a 911 call reporting a disturbance at the local hospital. The individual involved was identified as 50-year-old Kiesa Dawn Birstein of Sulphur Springs.

According to reports, Birstein was seen running through the hospital hallways and entering patient rooms, causing alarm among staff and patients. Hospital personnel stated that she was shouting incoherently and appeared to be in a highly agitated state.

Before officers arrived, Birstein had left the hospital and was located in the roadway nearby. Upon contact, officers reported that Birstein appeared disoriented and paranoid. She allegedly told them that people were trying to shoot her and were coming through the walls.

During questioning, Birstein admitted to using methamphetamines. While she claimed she had not used other illegal drugs besides her prescribed medications, officers determined that her intoxicated state posed a danger to herself and the public.

Birstein was subsequently arrested without further incident and transported to the Hopkins County Jail. She was charged with Public Intoxication.
