Wood County Deputy Killed in Collision with 18-Wheeler

Wood County Deputy Melissa Pollard died Wednesday, April 9th, following a vehicle collision at the intersection of FM 14 and State Highway 37-S, according to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office.

A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper at the scene reported that an 18-wheeler was making a left-hand turn when Deputy Pollard's vehicle collided with the back of the truck. The trooper indicated there were no signs of braking from the deputy's vehicle. Deputy Pollard was on duty at the time of the crash.

Deputy Pollard was transported to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the 18-wheeler was reportedly not injured.

In a statement, the Wood County Sheriff’s Office said, “Please pray for the Pollard family, Wood County Sheriff’s Office family, and all other parties involved in this tragedy."

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
