Former Nacogdoches Teacher Sentenced to Two Years in Child Sex Abuse Case

Annaleigh Andrews

Annaleigh Andrews, 26, a former middle school teacher at Nacogdoches ISD, was sentenced today to two years' confinement after being found guilty on multiple charges related to an improper relationship and sexual abuse of a student.

Andrews was convicted on three counts of improper relationship between educator and student, three counts of sexual assault of a child, and one count of enticing a child with intent to commit a felony.

In addition to the prison sentence, Andrews received a $5,000 fine and will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of her life.

Andrews was arrested on July 20, 2023, following an investigation that revealed she had groomed a student by messaging them on Snapchat, using marijuana with them, and taking them to a residence. According to the Nacogdoches district attorney’s office, Andrews asked the child to lie to their mother about their whereabouts, falsely telling the mother they were working on a project. Instead, Andrews sexually assaulted the child multiple times.

During the hearing, Andrews reportedly asked the court for leniency, citing her sheltered upbringing and a recent autism diagnosis.

420th District Judge Malcom Bales found Andrews guilty on seven of the twelve charges against her. He issued two two-year sentences to run concurrently.

The District Attorney’s Office expressed its disagreement with the sentence, stating that it "does not believe that it reflects the seriousness of the crime committed, the position of trust the defendant occupied during the commission of these offenses, or the harm suffered by the victim and the victim’s family.”
