The Wylie Police Department and Wylie Fire Rescue are currently investigating suspicious items found near a business at 1000 N. State Hwy 78 (Texas Dollar Pawn & Gun), leading to the evacuation of several nearby businesses and the closure of a portion of the highway.
At approximately 8:50 am, Wylie police responded to a call regarding an illegal dumping investigation. The reporting party provided video footage of an unidentified individual leaving a 55-gallon drum and a propane tank near the pawn and gun business.
Upon arrival, police requested the assistance of Wylie Fire Rescue to assess the potential hazardous materials. Following a quick evaluation, authorities made the decision to evacuate nearby businesses and shut down the southbound lanes of State Highway 78 in the vicinity for public safety.
Mutual aid has been requested as police and fire personnel continue their investigation into the suspicious items.
The Wylie Police Department is urging the public to avoid the area until further notice. An update will be provided once the materials are deemed safe.
