Longview Police Officer Honored for Saving Teacher's Life at Spring Hill ISD

Longview Police Officer Joshua Marrs has been awarded the Lifesaving Award for his heroic actions in September 2024, which helped save the life of a teacher at Spring Hill ISD.

The incident occurred when a teacher became unresponsive during class. Students promptly alerted the school nurse, who found the teacher slumped over and immediately began chest compressions with the assistance of another staff member.

Officer Joshua Marrs arrived on the scene shortly thereafter. He took over chest compressions and expertly guided the team in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The AED was administered twice before Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel arrived.

Thanks to Officer Marrs' calm leadership and swift actions, the teacher was stabilized and was responsive when transported to the hospital. The school nurse credited Officer Marrs with directly saving the teacher’s life, emphasizing that she could not have effectively managed the critical situation without his support and intervention.
