On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at approximately 10:05 AM, Sherman Dispatch received a call about a grass fire near the 500 block of East Pacific Street. The fire was suspected to be suspicious, and witnesses reported seeing the suspect(s) flee into a wooded area. This incident marked the second suspicious fire reported in the area within 24 hours.
Sherman Police Department and Sherman Fire Department responded to the scene, and the Sherman Fire Marshal observed a group of individuals near the intersection of Throckmorton Street and Maxey Street. The group appeared to be homeless and was living in a shack. Officers approached the individuals to investigate both the arson and potential trespassing issues.
When officers began questioning the group, Christian Trautner became confrontational and threatened the officers. He refused commands and retreated toward the shack, while Cassidy Clark physically blocked the officers' path by hugging Trautner. Both Trautner and Clark were told they were under arrest.
Trautner physically resisted arrest, assaulting two officers. Meanwhile, Clark attempted to take one of the officer's firearms during the struggle. Both were arrested, and Clark later caused damage to the patrol car by kicking its back seat.
Trautner was transported to a local hospital for an injury sustained during the confrontation. This incident is under investigation by the Sherman Police Department's Office of Professional Standards.
Clark faces charges of Criminal Mischief, Resisting Arrest, Taking a Weapon from an Officer, and Interference with Public Duties. Trautner is charged with two counts of Assault on a Peace Officer, Resisting Arrest, and Evading Arrest.
