Original Post:

On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at approximately 3:06 a.m., Lamar County deputies responded to a report of a motor vehicle burglary at a residence located on FM 905. The caller informed dispatch that they had interrupted a suspect attempting to break into their vehicles. As deputies were en route to the scene, they received a second report of a gunshot wound related to a separate burglary at another residence on FM 905.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the homeowner of the second residence had heard suspicious noises outside and went to investigate. The homeowner confronted the suspect, who was breaking into his vehicle parked in the driveway. During the confrontation, the suspect shot the homeowner and fled the scene in a dark-colored vehicle.

The victim was treated at the scene by deputies, who provided first aid until EMS arrived. The victim was later transported to the hospital for further treatment of a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Detectives from Lamar County’s Criminal Investigation Division quickly began their investigation, utilizing witness statements and information gathered from concerned citizens in the area. With cooperation from the Paris Police Department, detectives were able to identify three suspects involved in the shooting and burglary incidents.

Later that morning, search warrants were executed at three separate residences in Paris. The operation was carried out by the Lamar County Special Response Team (SRT), alongside the Paris Police Department's SWAT team. The search led to the identification and apprehension of two suspects.

One juvenile was taken into custody on an outstanding felony warrant from a previous unrelated incident, while another juvenile, who was not a suspect in the shooting, was arrested for possessing a stolen firearm.

In the evening, 18-year-old Akyrious Chandler was arrested in connection with the aggravated robbery related to the shooting. Chandler has been booked into the Lamar County Jail, with a bond set at $150,000. A juvenile suspect is also in custody and remains in the juvenile detention center.

Authorities are still searching for 17-year-old Jose Trevino, who remains at large with an active warrant for aggravated robbery.

Sheriff Scott Cass praised the swift response and efforts of his deputies, saying, “I commend the swift response of my Deputies, who arrived on the scene and provided life-saving measures to the victim until EMS arrived. I also appreciate the hard work of the Paris Police Department Detectives, as well as the combined efforts of both agencies, including the SWAT teams. The success of this operation is a result of excellent teamwork that has led to the apprehension of dangerous suspects.”

Sheriff Cass continued, “We will not rest until all individuals responsible for crimes in our county are brought to justice. Our prayers go out to the victim for a full and speedy recovery.”

Trevino is still being sought, and authorities encourage anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office at 903-737-2400.
