69-Year-Old Arrested After Crashing Pickup Into Building, Attempting to Evade Officers in Sherman

On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at approximately 6:57 p.m., Sherman Dispatch received a call reporting a vehicle that had crashed into a building in the 2100 block of Texoma Parkway. Upon arrival, officers found a pickup truck had driven through a breezeway, struck a stairwell, and appeared to be wedged in place. The vehicle was turned off, and the driver was unresponsive to verbal commands to exit.

Concerns arose that the driver might be in medical distress, prompting officers to approach and clear debris from the top of the vehicle. One officer attempted to break the windshield and extract the driver, but the situation escalated when the driver started the vehicle and floored the accelerator, ignoring officers' commands to stop. In the process, the driver almost struck an officer, who narrowly avoided injury by jumping off the vehicle.

The driver continued to attempt moving the vehicle forward and in reverse, causing significant damage to the building. Due to the vehicle being wedged in the breezeway and the driver’s non-compliance, officers deployed a less lethal shotgun to assist in breaking a window to extract the driver. The driver was not struck by the less lethal rounds.

After several minutes of attempting to extract the driver, officers successfully removed the 69-year-old man, identified as Billy Ham, from the vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation of minor injuries sustained during the crash. Ham refused to provide a statement about the incident. He was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault.
