Driver Killed After High-Speed Chase Ends in Crash at Hallsville Church

A 29-year-old Longview man died late Monday night following a high-speed pursuit that ended in a crash at the First Baptist Church of Hallsville.

On March 10, 2025, at approximately 10:47 p.m., the Harrison County Sheriff's Office received a report of a suspicious vehicle driving erratically through the Mason Creek Mobile Home Park on FM 968 in Longview. The caller reported a dark-colored sedan driving in circles through yards and nearly hitting multiple residences.

Deputies soon spotted a maroon Nissan Altima matching the description and observed the vehicle running a stop sign at the intersection of FM 968 and FM 450. When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to pull over, accelerating to speeds of 114 mph as the chase continued north into Hallsville.

The vehicle went airborne while crossing railroad tracks near the intersection of FM 450 and US Highway 80 before the driver lost control. The car veered off the road, striking the wall and awning of the First Baptist Church of Hallsville before coming to rest in a ditch.

Deputies found the driver, identified as 29-year-old Jason Thomas Hart of Longview, deceased at the scene. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash.
