Sherman Man Arrested After Stabbing Two Dogs in Domestic Dispute

A 23-year-old man was arrested on March 1, 2025, after two dogs were found severely injured in a home on North Shannon Drive. Sherman police responded to a call at 11:43 PM regarding suspicious activity, with the caller reporting hearing someone mention stabbing an ex-girlfriend’s dog.

Officers spoke with several individuals at the residence, including Michael Jason Ruiz, who claimed he was moving belongings out of the house after issues with his ex-girlfriend. He denied the dogs were hurt. However, when officers accompanied Ruiz to the front door, they noticed fresh blood inside the home.

Upon entering, they found two dogs with major lacerations, one inside the home and another outside. Both dogs were rushed to a nearby emergency veterinary hospital but unfortunately did not survive their injuries.

Officers detained Ruiz, noticing fresh blood on his clothing and body, though he had no visible injuries. Further investigation led to evidence linking him to the stabbing of the two dogs.

Ruiz was arrested on two counts of Felony Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animals and was taken to the Grayson County Jail. His bond was set at $60,000.
