On March 3, 2025, the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office Criminal Interdiction Team arrested Jerrick Munns of Wills Point, Texas, after a traffic stop in the Rolling Oaks area of Wills Point. The arrest followed an earlier encounter on January 9, 2025, when Munns was detained for possessing illegal drugs, including suspected methamphetamine, after admitting to having drugs in his vehicle.
During the January 9th stop, deputies discovered suspected marijuana, methamphetamine, and a large sum of money in Munns' vehicle. He was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a second-degree felony. However, Munns experienced a medical episode while at the Van Zandt County Detention Center and was released to medical personnel at the Canton Emergency Room. A warrant for his arrest was issued following his release.
When Munns was stopped again on March 3, 2025, for equipment and moving violations, deputies executed the warrant. A K9 alerted deputies to the presence of illegal items in his vehicle, leading to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine, scales, pills suspected to be Trazadone, marijuana, and additional drug paraphernalia.
Munns was arrested on the warrant and charged with manufacturing/delivering a controlled substance, a first-degree felony.
Sheriff Bridger commended the efforts of the Criminal Interdiction Team, stating, "I am proud of all our Deputies, surrounding Agencies, and the great work done by our Criminal Interdiction Team. Thanks to these dedicated law enforcement professionals, Van Zandt County continues putting criminals on notice."
