The Longview Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at 1518 Seventh Street Apt. 8 on February 27, 2025, at approximately 8:40 a.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy black smoke and found the resident lying in the doorway. The resident was rescued, and firefighters conducted a primary search for additional victims while simultaneously suppressing the fire.
The fire was brought under control within approximately five minutes. The injured resident was transported to the hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, originating from empty cardboard food boxes left on the stovetop, which was inadvertently turned on during a medical emergency.
The Longview Fire Department responded with 23 personnel, including 3 fire engines, 2 ladder trucks, 2 ambulances, and 5 support vehicles.
