Robert Eugene Purser was arrested on February 25, 2025, after a high-speed pursuit that spanned multiple counties and resulted in injuries to two Lamar County deputies.
Lamar County Deputies were contacted by the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police regarding a stolen white Nissan Sentra driven by Purser, who was wanted on a felony theft warrant from Bryan County, Oklahoma, and considered armed and dangerous.
Deputies located the vehicle on US 271 in Lamar County and attempted a traffic stop, but Purser fled, leading to a high-speed pursuit exceeding 100 mph.
During the chase, Purser attempted to force deputies and at least one civilian off the road, drove through fields, fences, and driveways, and turned off his headlights in an attempt to evade capture.
Deputies intentionally forced Purser's vehicle off the road on FM 137 west of Roxton, resulting in a crash involving both Purser's vehicle and the deputies' vehicle.
Two deputies were treated and released from Paris Regional Health for minor injuries. Purser was also treated for injuries.
Purser was arrested and faces the following charges:
- Felony Theft warrant (Bryan County, Oklahoma)
- Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle (State Jail Felony)
- Evading arrest w/vehicle (Third-degree felony)
- Possession of controlled substance PG 1/1B <1 gram (State Jail Felony)
- Aggravated assault against a public servant (First-degree felony x 3)
- Possession of controlled substance PG 2-A <= 2oz (Class B misdemeanor)
- Wrong/fictitious/obscured license plate (Class C misdemeanor)
- Possession of drug paraphernalia (Class C misdemeanor)
Numerous agencies assisted in the pursuit, including the Texas Highway Patrol, Lamar County Constables, Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, Honey Grove PD, NE Texas Auto Theft Task Force, Paris PD, Lamar County Emergency Management, Paris EMS, and Roxton and Brookston first responders.
