Merit Family Displaced After Overnight House Fire; Community Assistance Sought

A Merit family has lost their home in an overnight fire that occurred on Friday, February 21st, 2025.

The Merit Fire Department responded to a structure fire at approximately 2 a.m. and found a building attached to a home fully engulfed in flames. While the home was destroyed, all occupants were able to evacuate safely.

The Merit Fire Department is now seeking community assistance to help the family recover. Donations of gift cards for groceries, toiletries, and other essential items are being requested. Anyone wishing to donate can contact the Merit Fire Department through private message to arrange a drop-off at the station.

The Merit Fire Department expressed gratitude to the Celeste Volunteer Fire Department, Josephine Fire Department, Blue Ridge Fire Department, Caddo Mills Fire Rescue, Farmersville Fire Department-Texas, Hunt County Sheriff's Office, Hunt County AMR, and the Red Cross for their assistance at the scene.
