A Longview man was arrested following a domestic violence incident and armed standoff on February 14, 2025, in the 200 block of Tupelo Drive.
At approximately 8:50 p.m., Longview Police officers responded to a domestic disturbance and determined there was probable cause that a felony family violence offense had occurred. When officers made contact with the suspect at the residence, he fled inside and pointed a rifle at them. Officers took cover, and the SWAT unit was called to assist. Shortly after, a shot was fired from within the residence.
Longview SWAT and the Negotiations Unit arrived and attempted to make contact with the suspect. After repeated attempts with no response, SWAT secured the area and employed non-lethal force measures to bring the situation to a safe resolution.
The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Benjamin Howell of Longview, was taken into custody and booked into the Gregg County Jail on charges of Continuous Violence Against the Family and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
The Longview Police Department thanked the Gregg County Sheriff's Office and the Longview Fire Department for their assistance. Authorities urge anyone experiencing or aware of family violence to report it to local law enforcement immediately.
