Greenville Public Library Receives 2024 Achievement of Library Excellence Award

The W. Walworth Harrison Public Library has been awarded the 2024 Achievement of Library Excellence Award by the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association (TMLDA), an affiliate of the Texas Municipal League.

To qualify, libraries must demonstrate outstanding service in ten categories, including outreach to underserved populations, innovative marketing, community collaboration, enhanced public services, literacy support, digital inclusion, workforce development, and cultural programming.

The W. Walworth Harrison Public Library was recognized for its diverse programs and services that benefit the Greenville community. Notable initiatives include the Shushbooth, an innovative quiet space for study and work; the Outdoor Harmony Center, a dedicated outdoor area for events and gatherings; and a newly designed Public Services Desk to improve patron assistance. Additional offerings include charging stations for electronic devices, literacy and educational events such as LITCON and Fantasy Faire, and annual events like Author Fest, Touch-A-Truck, and the Summer Reading Program. The library also provides health and wellness opportunities, including yoga classes.

The recognition places the Greenville library among an elite group, as only 102 out of 542 public libraries in Texas received the award this year.
