Sabine County Sheriff Tom Maddox Passes Away at 67

The Sabine County Sheriff’s Office announced the passing of Sheriff Tom Maddox on the morning of February 13, 2025. Maddox, 67, died at his home in Sabine County shortly after 5 a.m., surrounded by family, following complications from a long-term illness.

Maddox had served as the Sheriff of Sabine County since 2001 and was a former president of the Texas Sheriff's Association. Before his tenure as sheriff, he worked as a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper.

Law enforcement agencies from across the region, including the Houston Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, and multiple county sheriff’s offices, assisted in escorting Sheriff Maddox home from the hospital on February 12.

Funeral arrangements are pending, and details will be announced once finalized. Cards and flowers for the Maddox family can be sent to the Sabine County Sheriff's Office at 310 Main Street, Hemphill, Texas, 75948.
