A 28-year-old man, Demathis Murikas Parker, was arrested on Sunday, February 9, after being accused of assaulting and choking a family member during a domestic disturbance in Commerce.
Upon arrival at the scene, Commerce Police officers found the victim who had been physically assaulted. Parker was taken into custody and charged with Assault of a Family Member Impeding Breath/Circulation. He was transported to the Hunt County Detention Center, where his bond was set at $75,000.
Parker has a history of violent offenses. In May 2024, he was arrested for assaulting a pregnant woman and interfering with an emergency call. A protective order was granted the following day to safeguard the victim. In January 2025, Parker pled guilty to a lesser charge of Assault Causes Bodily Injury Family Violence and was sentenced to time served, having spent 254 days in jail.
