On February 7, 2025, Rusk County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Shift “A” and a Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden responded to a trespassing report at Luminant Liberty Mine in Rusk County. Surveillance cameras captured images of two male suspects on the property without the owner’s consent.
Deputies determined the suspects were attempting to remove copper from a decommissioned dragline building. Law enforcement made contact with one suspect, identified as Brandon Drew Wright of Kilgore, Texas, who was taken into custody. He was charged with Criminal Trespass (Misdemeanor B) and Burglary of a Building (State Jail Felony). His bond was set at $16,000 by Rusk County Justice of the Peace Pct. #5, Jana Enloe.
Deputies later located and arrested a second suspect, Kenneth Logan King of Kilgore, who was also charged with Criminal Trespass and Burglary of a Building. King remains in custody with bonds totaling $16,000.
