The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly shooting that occurred Friday afternoon, February 7, 2025, near Brown Middle School in Forney, Texas. Two people were shot during the incident, and one later died from his injuries.
At approximately 2:00 PM, authorities responded to reports of gunfire in the 2000 block of Chisholm Trail in the Amber Fields neighborhood, located just outside the Forney city limits. Kaufman County Precinct 2 Constable Jason Johnson stated that the shooting began as an altercation between individuals in a white vehicle and pedestrians walking along Chisholm Trail near Spyglass Drive. Gunfire was exchanged, and the white vehicle fled the scene, eventually stopping at Brown Middle School.
While the shooting did not occur on Forney ISD property, the nearby schools were placed on secure status as a precaution. This included North Forney High School, Brown Middle School, Smith Intermediate, Dewberry Elementary, Blackburn Elementary, and Forney Learning Academy. Brown Middle School students were dismissed early to their parents, and those picking up students were instructed to enter off Windmill Farms Boulevard due to police road closures. By 3:00 PM, the district confirmed that the secure status had been lifted, and officers were at the school to assist with student pickups.
The two adult male victims were transported to the hospital, where one, later identified as Caden MacChristian Rider of Forney, succumbed to his injuries. Rider was a 2023 graduate of North Forney High School. The condition of the second victim remains unclear.
Two men have been arrested in connection with the shooting. 19-year-old Artinamas Dequann Searcy has been charged with Capital Murder by Terror Threat/Other Felony. The identity of the second individual arrested has not been released, nor has his role in the incident been defined.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
