Man Sentenced to 50 Years for Stabbing Death of his Girlfriend in Polk County

DeAndre Shermail Wright

On January 13, 2025, DeAndre Shermail Wright pleaded guilty to the murder of Jasmine Muldoon and was sentenced to 50 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The sentencing took place in the 411th Judicial District Court of Polk County before Judge John E. Wells III.

First Assistant District Attorney Tami Pierce and Assistant District Attorney Aaron DiIorio had been prepared to take the case to trial, but after discussions with Muldoon's family regarding the emotional toll of a trial, the State agreed to the plea deal.

Muldoon was reported missing on May 5, 2024, following a tumultuous relationship with Wright. The Polk County Sheriff's Office and Texas Department of Public Safety Rangers quickly launched a search, leading to the discovery of her body the next day. She had died from a stab wound, leaving behind four children.

The Polk County District Attorney’s Office credited law enforcement’s swift response in gathering critical evidence that led to Wright’s conviction. Additional statements emphasized the importance of seeking help in cases of domestic violence, urging victims to reach out to local law enforcement for assistance.
