Fugitive Wanted in Collin County for Child Sexual Assault Captured in Houston, Shot by Police

Robert Gregory Johnson III

Robert Gregory Johnson III, 32, wanted in Collin County for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, was taken into custody following a coordinated effort between law enforcement agencies and the public.

The Collin County Sheriff’s Office issued a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) alert on January 16, 2025, after Johnson had been on the run since August 2024 when he removed his court-ordered electronic monitor. Investigators had pursued multiple leads before seeking public assistance, which generated numerous tips that advanced the investigation.

Members of the Collin County Sheriff's Office Gang and Habitual Offender Strike Team (GHOST), working alongside the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force, tracked Johnson’s movements. On February 2, 2025, at approximately 9:45 a.m., officers located Johnson at a McDonald's restaurant in Houston. During the attempted arrest, an officer-involved shooting occurred, and Johnson was injured. He was the only individual wounded and is expected to survive.

Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner credited both the public and law enforcement agencies for their roles in Johnson’s capture. “The public’s assistance played a critical role in this investigation, and we appreciate every tip received,” said Sheriff Skinner. “We also want to recognize the outstanding efforts of the U.S. Marshals Service and the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force in bringing Johnson into custody.”

The Texas Rangers are investigating the officer-involved shooting, and Johnson may face additional charges related to the incident.
