Two Arrested in Carthage After K9 Alerts to Promethazine During Traffic Stop

Two people were arrested after a traffic stop led to the discovery of multiple cases of prescription Promethazine in Panola County.

On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 2:57 p.m., Panola County Sheriff's Office Corporal Mojica conducted a traffic stop in the 4200 block of Loop 436 in Carthage. K9 Zago alerted to the vehicle, prompting a search that uncovered multiple cases of prescription Promethazine.

Ariunna Charmaine-Martin Temple, 25, and Brandon Lee Farris, 27, both of Texarkana, were arrested for possession of a dangerous drug and transported to the Panola County Detention Center.

Promethazine is a prescription antihistamine commonly used to treat allergies, nausea, and motion sickness. It is also used as a sedative and to enhance the effects of opioid pain relievers. When abused, especially in combination with codeine cough syrup, it can produce a euphoric or sedative effect and is commonly referred to on the illegal market as "Purple Drank" or "Lean."
