On Saturday afternoon, Wesley Hatcher was arrested and charged with Endangering a Child after two 6-year-old boys were found playing unsupervised for hours at Spring Lake Park in Texarkana, Texas.
A woman at the park noticed the boys near the playground without an adult present. Concerned for their safety, she observed them for about 30 minutes before approaching to ask if they were with anyone. The boys said they were with a relative, “Wesley,” but did not know his whereabouts. After helping the boys search for him for another 30 minutes, the woman contacted the Texarkana Police Department.
Officer Zackary Gilley responded to the scene and spoke with the boys, who described their relative and his small purple car. Despite searching the park, no sign of Wesley was found, prompting Officer Gilley to notify Child Protective Services (CPS).
While waiting for CPS, a vehicle matching the boys' description was seen driving slowly through the park. Officer Gilley stopped the vehicle, driven by Wesley Hatcher, who admitted he was looking for the children.
After confirming the boys had been left unsupervised for over two hours, Officer Gilley arrested Hatcher for Endangering a Child. He was booked into the Bi-State Jail, and CPS released the children into their mother’s care.
The case remains under investigation.
