On Tuesday morning, January 21, 2025, Smith County Emergency Services District 2 (ESD2) responded to a request for assistance with a structure fire in Cherokee County. However, during the trip, Engine 146 from Troup was involved in a single-vehicle rollover accident off FM 13, just outside of Troup.
Two firefighters aboard the engine were knocked unconscious in the crash. After regaining consciousness, the firefighters called in the accident and began working to free themselves from the overturned vehicle. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to the scene, and both firefighters were transported to a local hospital.
Medical personnel determined the injuries sustained by the firefighters were non-life threatening. Both were discharged from the hospital a few hours later.
The area was cleared with the help of local law enforcement, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), and officials from Smith County ESD2. The cause of the accident is under investigation by Texas DPS, with full cooperation from Smith County ESD2.
