On Saturday, January 25, 2025, at approximately 8:34 p.m., Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad (BNSF) reported an incident involving an eastbound train striking a pedestrian near Business Highway 190 and Vendable Drive, west of Killeen and just off the main post of Fort Cavazos.
The Bell County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Cavazos Military Police, Killeen Police Department, and Killeen Fire/Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene. Emergency personnel located a female victim, who was transported by Killeen EMS to Carl R. Darnell Medical Center Emergency Department. Despite their efforts, the victim succumbed to her injuries.
Justice of the Peace Nicola James ordered an autopsy to be conducted at Hill Country Forensics. The Bell County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the incident. Preliminary findings suggest this was a tragic accident, with no indications of foul play.
The victim’s next of kin has been notified, and the name of the deceased will not be released at this time to ensure all family members are informed. Victim Services has been notified to assist the family during this difficult time.
