The Marshall Police Department (MPD) has identified the woman involved in the officer-involved shooting on December 19, 2024, as 22-year-old Evelyn Luna of Marshall. Luna has been charged with Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant.
The incident began around 1:20 p.m. when officers responded to a disturbance call in the 100 block of Interstate 20. Upon arrival, officers learned that Luna was armed with a handgun. Additional support was requested, with the MPD Special Response Team (SRT), Crisis Negotiation Team, and the Harrison County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) SRT and deputies responding to the scene.
Despite attempts to negotiate with Luna, she fired her handgun at officers, prompting an MPD officer to return fire and strike her. Luna was immediately treated by Marshall Fire Department personnel who were already on-site, before being transported to a local hospital for further care.
After being medically cleared, Luna was arrested and transported to the Harrison County Jail.
