Kaufman Police Investigate Animal Cruelty After Eight Puppies Abandoned at Walmart

The Kaufman Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individual(s) responsible for abandoning eight puppies in an animal cruelty incident. On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 8:30 p.m., a Walmart employee discovered an animal kennel full of puppies left in the store’s parking lot and contacted the authorities.

Upon arrival, officers found the puppies, who were left without food, water, or shelter in harsh weather conditions. The animals were promptly brought to the Kaufman Police Department, where they received food, water, and a health check. Officers also created a warm and safe environment for the puppies to stay overnight.

On Thursday morning, December 19, 2024, the puppies were transported to the Humane Society of Cedar Creek for further care. Officer M. Willis, who played a key role in ensuring the puppies' safety, has already adopted one of the puppies.

The Kaufman Police Department is reviewing hours of surveillance footage and asks anyone with information to come forward to assist in identifying the individual(s) responsible for the abandonment.
