A fire broke out late Tuesday, December 17th, at a thrift store next to Wills Point City Hall on Houston Street, causing extensive damage to the building. Firefighters from Grand Saline, Wills Point, and Edgewood, along with Oncor personnel, responded to the scene around 11:40 p.m. More than two dozen first responders, including the volunteer fire department from Wills Point, worked through the night to contain the blaze.
U.S. Highway 80 was shut down in both directions for several hours as emergency crews worked to control the fire. The Van Zandt County Fire Marshal’s Office was on site throughout the day to monitor the situation and continue the investigation.
According to the Deputy Fire Marshal, the fire originated from the building's electrical box. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause and assess the damage.
