A Greenville Police officer was shot Monday night during a traffic stop in the 3500 block of Pickett Street, according to witness and neighbor reports.
Witnesses on social media indicated that the officer was allegedly ambushed and exchanged gunfire with a suspect. Both the officer and the suspect were struck during the incident.
The officer was rushed to Hunt County Regional Hospital, where a heavy law enforcement presence was reported. The condition of both the officer and the suspect remains unknown at this time.
The Greenville Police Department released a statement confirming the incident: "Close to 8 PM tonight, an officer with the Greenville Police Department was involved in an officer-involved shooting. Both the officer and the suspect were injured and are receiving medical attention."
The Texas Department of Public Safety's Texas Rangers will be conducting the investigation as a third-party investigatory agency.
