On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, officers from the Paris Police Department, the Northeast Texas Auto Theft Task Force, and the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office successfully recovered a stolen 2004 Toyota Four-Runner and arrested two men.
The vehicle had been stolen the day after the victim purchased it in Addison. After spotting the car for sale again on social media, a person who knew the victim recognized it and informed the victim, who then alerted authorities. The suspects planned to meet a new buyer in the 3500 block of NE Loop 286 in Paris. Officers surveilled the location and identified the suspected stolen Toyota, along with another vehicle used by the suspects.
Both vehicles were stopped, and the Toyota was confirmed to be the stolen vehicle. The suspects, Mauricio Jose Alvarado Sequera, 39, and John Mario Mayetoner Alverado, 22, were taken into custody.
While in the back seat of a patrol unit, Alverado Sequera attempted to hide the vehicle’s title in the seat. He was charged with Tampering or Fabricating Evidence, while both suspects face charges of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.
