Tyler Man Arrested for Murder After Woman Found Dead in House Fire

On Monday, November 11, 2024, at approximately 3:35 a.m., the Tyler Fire Department responded to a residential fire at a home in the 3300 block of Shady Trail. Once the fire was extinguished, fire crews discovered a deceased female in a back room of the house. The woman's identity is under investigation, and her body has been sent for autopsy.

At about 3:55 a.m., Gregory Bargaineer, a 67-year-old male from Tyler, walked into the lobby of the Smith County Jail and made statements regarding an incident involving a female at the Shady Trail residence. Bargaineer was subsequently interviewed by Tyler Police Department Crimes Against Persons Detectives and Tyler Fire Investigators.

After gathering evidence, an arrest warrant was issued for Gregory Bargaineer on charges of Murder, with a bond set at $750,000. He was booked into the Smith County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
