Uber Driver Robbed at Gunpoint, Suspect Leads Authorities on High-Speed Chase Across Counties

Cory Jamal Redic

Late Wednesday night, Royse City Police responded to an aggravated robbery call in the Verandah Subdivision, Hunt County, involving a female Uber driver who had been held at gunpoint. The driver reported she had picked up a male passenger in Addison and driven him to the address in the subdivision. Upon arrival, the suspect allegedly drew a handgun, pressed it to the back of her head, demanded money, and seized her phone before forcing her out of the vehicle. The suspect then drove off in her 2020 Hyundai Tucson. The driver managed to flag down another motorist and called 911.

Shortly after the robbery, a Fate Department of Public Safety (DPS) officer spotted the stolen vehicle heading west on Highway 66 in Fate, Rockwall County. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect fled, leading to a high-speed pursuit involving Fate DPS, Rockwall County Sheriff’s deputies, and officers from neighboring jurisdictions. The chase continued into Rockwall and Rowlett, ending near Miller Road and the President George Bush Turnpike Service Road. Officers successfully stopped the vehicle using a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver, forcing the suspect to exit and flee on foot.

A coordinated foot chase ensued with support from the Rowlett Police Department, a Texas DPS helicopter unit, and a Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit. Officers apprehended the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Cory Jamal Redic of Hunt County, who was taken into custody without injury.

Redic faces multiple charges in Rockwall and Hunt Counties stemming from the robbery and vehicle pursuit.

The Royse City Police Department highlighted the critical role of the Rockwall County Communications Center, whose 911 dispatchers rapidly relayed information that helped law enforcement track and arrest the suspect. The department emphasized the often-overlooked role dispatchers play as first responders in cases like this.
