On June 19, 2024, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing adult and child who had not been in contact with family members since July 2022. Both individuals were entered as missing persons in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), launching a thorough investigation.
After months of investigative work, on October 22, 2024, detectives from the Leon County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division executed a search warrant on a property in Buffalo, Texas, where human remains were discovered. These remains were sent to the Center for Human Identification at the University of North Texas for forensic examination and identification.
The investigation identified Michael Dean Davis, Jr. as a suspect. On November 12, 2024, Davis was apprehended in Laredo on a Murder charge and transported to the Webb County Jail, where he is held on a $3,000,000 bond.
The multi-agency effort that led to Davis’s arrest and the recovery of the missing child involved coordination between the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Leon County District Attorney’s Office, U.S. Marshals’ Lone Star Fugitive Task Force-Waco, U.S. Marshals’ Gulf Coast Violent Offenders and Fugitive Task Force - Laredo Division, Laredo Police Department and SWAT, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Webb County District Attorney's Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Texas Rangers Division.
