Terrell Man Sentenced to 68 Years for Aggravated Sexual Assault After Good Samaritan's Call Leads to Arrest

Criminal District Attorney Erleigh Norville Wiley announced today that a jury convicted 45-year-old Keith Richard Nemcek of Aggravated Sexual Assault, a first-degree felony, resulting in a 68-year prison sentence.

The case began on July 19, 2023, when a concerned citizen in Terrell, Texas, called 911 after finding an injured woman in his driveway. Officers from the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office and Terrell Police Department arrived and transported the victim for medical treatment and a sexual assault exam.

Investigators determined that on the night of July 18 and into the early hours of July 19, Nemcek assaulted the victim using a baseball bat and his hand, repeatedly strangled her, and struck her in the face. The assault followed months of abuse, during which Nemcek allegedly controlled the victim through isolation, manipulation, and violence. When Nemcek left for work on the morning of July 19, the victim escaped to seek help.

During the trial, jurors heard evidence of Nemcek’s history of controlling behavior in relationships, contrasted with testimonies from his coworkers describing him as friendly and charismatic. After four days of testimony, the jury delivered a swift guilty verdict on November 7, 2024, and imposed the 68-year sentence.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Justin King and Ashley Holman with support from Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, Terrell Police, and the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners at Texas Health Presbyterian, who ensured the victim received justice and care.
