Texarkana Woman Arrested After Attempted Walmart Theft Ends in Unexpected Swim

Amber Taylor

On Monday morning, Texarkana Officer James Harris responded to a theft report at the Walmart on New Boston Road. A woman, later identified as Amber Taylor, had reportedly left the store with a new television without paying. Shortly after, she was spotted in the nearby Lowe’s parking lot, where she stood between two cars with the television atop a shopping cart.

When Officer Harris approached, Taylor quickly abandoned the cart and television and began walking away. Upon his call for her to return, Taylor took off running—heading straight for a fence bordering a pond along the east edge of the parking lot. Attempting to flee, she made an unintended detour into the pond.

Emerging from the water, Taylor returned to officers, who assisted her over the fence before placing her under arrest for Theft and Evading Arrest. Just as the situation was concluding, an Uber arrived, presumably intended as her "getaway." Officers canceled the ride, having already arranged her transport to the Bi-State Jail, where Taylor remains in custody.
