Memphis Man Convicted of Capital Murder in Texarkana Shooting

Cornell Brown

On September 20, 2021, Texarkana Arkansas Police officers responded to a shooting near E. 11th and California streets, finding Keith McFadden with fatal gunshot wounds. Despite lifesaving efforts from bystanders, police, and LifeNet EMS, McFadden succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

An investigation led to the identification of 33-year-old Cornell Brown as a suspect. Detectives discovered Brown had traveled from his home in Memphis, Tennessee, to Texarkana with the intent to commit the crime. Working with the Miller County Prosecutor’s Office and other agencies, Texarkana police secured an arrest warrant, leading to Brown’s capture in Tennessee in October 2021 and his subsequent extradition to Arkansas.

Following a jury trial beginning on November 4, 2024, Brown was convicted of Capital Murder on November 6 and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Texarkana police, alongside the prosecutor’s office, expressed gratitude for the hard work of law enforcement and support staff, hoping the verdict offers a measure of comfort to McFadden’s family.
