An investigation into alleged unsportsmanlike conduct during a high school volleyball game at North Lamar has concluded. Pleasant Grove ISD Superintendent Chad Pirtle released a letter to the Texarkana Gazette detailing the findings of a thorough investigation conducted in collaboration with North Lamar ISD.
The inquiry was prompted by a video and caption posted on social media by a North Lamar volleyball player, which alleged bullying by Pleasant Grove students. The investigation confirmed that a small number of spectators on the Pleasant Grove sidelines made unsportsmanlike comments and gestures directed at North Lamar. However, it also determined that the allegation of spitting made in the video was false; witnesses reported that the individual accused of spitting was actually barking and did not attend Pleasant Grove.
Interviews with players, coaches, referees, and fans revealed no corroboration of a North Lamar student's claim of a racist taunt. As of now, North Lamar Superintendent Kelli Stewart and Public Relations Director Melissa Allen have not responded to the allegations.
