Sherry Gail West and Jamie Leah Abbott

On Friday night, November 1, 2024, WPD Officer Corbin Hanner conducted a traffic stop for speeding in the 900 block of Gilmer Road. Upon contact, Officer Hanner detected the odor of marijuana, and the driver admitted to having narcotics in the vehicle. Officer Hanner subsequently recovered over 20 grams of methamphetamine, psilocybin mushrooms, various controlled medications, THC wax, and drug paraphernalia. The driver, Jamie Leah Abbott of Winnsboro, was arrested and taken to the Wood County Jail.

On Sunday, November 3, 2024, Officer Kaela Carter stopped a vehicle on South Walnut Street due to an obstructed temporary tag. The driver, Sherry Gail West of Magnolia, AR, had an outstanding warrant for a probation violation. During a vehicle search, Officer Carter found 33 grams of methamphetamine in West's purse. West was also arrested and taken to the Wood County Jail.

"I want to commend the proactive work of these two officers in taking these narcotics off of the streets of Winnsboro and making it a safer place to live, work, and do business," said Winnsboro Police Chief Ryan Brown. "Let this serve as notice that you WILL be arrested and prosecuted if you bring your activities into the city limits."
